Twelve students participating in the 8th International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress “Oil and Gas Horizons” visited SPD Moscow Office. SPD is a standing sponsor of the Congress which is organized by Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas every year. This year the company has supported the initiative of the Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter to visit the oil-producing company’s office and introduce the students to SPD’s operational expertise.
Andrew Mabian, Deputy Operations Manager, invited the guests to a tour and a presentation. During the meeting future oil industry workers have learned key facts about the Salym group of fields, the scale of oil development, the level of oilfield automation, new technologies, and the company’s operational safety and environmental safety policies.
The students from Austria, Germany, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan were especially interested in the innovative Smart Fields technology which is used for remotely controlling the well stock in real time. “We have shown them our software suite which reflects the key parameters we work with, optimizing the operation of wells and surface infrastructure. The kids have learned the electric submersible pump arrangement applied on our oilfield; it was interesting for everyone to hold this important piece of equipment in their own hands,” Viktor Safonov, Production Programmer, said.
“The international environment, the usage of most efficient methods, care of the personnel, and continuous process of learning and implementation of new methods and technologies – this is the key range of my impressions of Salym Petroleum,” Nikita Kondrakhin, a student at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and the group leader, noted. “The company's special climate, informal communication with us impressed us greatly. It was especially great that SPD specialists, by asking us questions, have shown the value of our university-level knowledge and an opportunity to actually practice it.”
SPD renders all kinds of assistance to university and school students: supports by higher education grants, sponsors business games and conferences, arranges tours to the company’s oilfields and offices. The company pays special attention to future oil industry workers, students of relevant universities, those who see their future in the areas related to exploration, oilfield development, and new technologies.
Earlier this year another group of students from USA, Netherlands, Estonia, UAE, and Russia visited Salym group of oil fields.Back to
