20 students participating in the 9th International Youth Science and Practice Congress ‘Oil and Gas Horizons’ visited SPD Moscow Office. The company is a standing sponsor of the annual Congress organized by Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Year on year, the company supports the initiative of the Student Chapter of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) which exists at the University, and receives at its office the oil industry students willing to get to know SPD.

This time the tour was attended by students from Brazil, Germany, Iran, Kazakhstan, Serbia, as well as Russian students. Andrew Mabian, Deputy Operations Manager, gave the guests a presentation and an introductory tour. In the course of the meeting the students have learned the basic facts regarding the Salym group of oil fields, level of oilfield automation, and new technologies. A special focus was made on Incident- and Injury-Free culture at the Salym group of oil fields.

Students of various petroleum vocations asked questions on the aspects of the company's operations that were of interest for them. The Smart Fields technology stirred traditional interest. At Wells Reservoir Facilities Management office, future oil people got to know hands-on the capabilities of this technology used for remotely controlling the well stock in real time.

“The visit to SPD left the most remarkable impressions. I especially liked the WRFM team, international, open, friendly, comprising specialists in various fields of knowledge, and working as one entity,” Alexander Udovichenko, 1st year student in Master’s Program at Gubkin RSU of Oil and Gas. “Getting to know companies like Salym Petroleum shows us students that the industry that we chose is not just state-of-the-art technologies and scientific achievement but also genuine team work towards the result and people enthusiastic about what they are doing.”

SPD plans to continue cooperation with the Organizing Committee of the ‘Oil and Gas Horizons’ Congress and SPE Student Chapter. Meetings between the company’s specialists and students, along with other forms of support for university and school students adopted by SPD, is one of significant areas of the company’s social policy. Tours to the Salym group of oil fields and to the company’s offices enhance the young generation’s interest towards vocations chosen, opening new professional horizons for them.
