Salym Petroleum Development N.V. (SPD) ranked 4th in the Environmental Responsibility Rating of Russian oil & gas companies prepared by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). As compared to last year, SPD went up one line by improving the total score in environmental management and environmental impact indicators.
‘Annual improvement of SPD positions in the environmental rating is an evidence of correctness of the direction that we have chosen in the area of environmental protection. We continuously work on enhancing the environmental management quality and the level of environment friendliness at our license areas,’ Mikhail Kovalev, HSSE Manager, pointed out. ‘High grades from the rating jury is not only an acknowledgement of SPD achievements in the domain of environmental safety but also a certain incentive for further implementation of larger scale, more ambitious projects that will help us preserve the unique ecosystem of the Salym region for future generations.’
SPD holds the highest position – 2nd place – in Environmental Management. In the Environmental Impact section the company went up, as compared to last year, from line seven to four.
22 companies participated in the 2017 rating. SPD has been participating in it since 2014. In 2015, the company ranked 8th; in 2014, 7th; in 2015, 5th.
The rating organized by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the CREON Group jointly with National Rating Agency and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation makes it possible to evaluate the level of environmental impact of petroleum companies operating in Russia as well as the quality of the companies’ corporate policies. 29 criteria which are used for the calculation are organized in three topic sections: Environmental Management, Environmental Impact (discharges, emissions, waste) and Disclosure/Transparency (the level of the companies’ openness and preparedness for a dialogue with the society). In the course of preparing the Environmental Responsibility Rating of oil & gas companies only the information which is posted in the public domain is taken into account.Back to
