Salym Petroleum Development (SPD) ranked 5th in the environmental responsibility rating of oil & gas companies in Russia published by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) jointly with National Rating Agency, having improved its total score for environmental protection indicators year on year.

“From the first days of the Salym project execution our company has been paying priority attention to environmental protection issues. The high score given by the contest jury confirms the efficiency of the enormous scope of practical work that our team performs in the domain of environmental safety within the Salym group of oilfields. For us as a company it is very important not only to contribute to the development of our country’s economy but also to preserve the region’s fragile nature for future generations," Alexey Govzich, SPD CEO, noted.

SPD received the highest score in the Environmental Management category where it shared the second place with largest petroleum industry companies such as Gazprom, Lukoil, and Surgutneftegaz, trailing the leader, Sakhalin Energy, by mere 0.143 points. This has once again confirmed high efficiency of SPD’s Environmental Safety Team operations.

“The SPD team is different for its high responsibility and care of environmental protection issues, working in a company like this is a great pleasure and joy,” Elena Gerasimovich, Environmental Team Leader, shared her impressions on the outcome of the rating.

SPD has been participating in the environmental responsibility rating since 2014. Last year the company ranked 8th; in 2014 – 7th.

The rating permits to assess the environmental impact level of the activities of oil & gas companies operating in Russia as well as the quality of the companies' corporate policies. 29 criteria which are used for the calculation are organized in three topic sections: Environmental Management, Environmental Impact (discharges, emissions, waste) and Disclosure / Transparency (the level of the companies’ openness and preparedness for a dialogue with the society). In the course of preparing the Environmental Responsibility Rating of oil & gas companies only the information which is posted in the public domain is taken into account.
