On October 12, the World Petroleum Council (WPC) announced the finalists of its annual Excellence Award 2021 for social investment and sustainable development. Salym Petroleum’s Good Neighbors social investment program aimed at supporting and developing local communities became one of the three finalists in the small and medium-sized companies category.

Good Neighbors is a comprehensive program on developing the company’s area of operations, social performance and mutually beneficial long-term partnership with local communities. This program’s integral elements are matters like STEM education and programs development, supporting small businesses and indigenous peoples, reducing the environmental footprint, creating an inclusive and diverse work environment, and also assistance in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Good Neighbors program was judged by international experts and selected from over 130 applications submitted from all over the world. Indigenous Island program by Sakhalin Energy also made it to the top 3 in this category.

The World Petroleum Council is a non-profit, non-political organization established in 1933 to provide a venue for discussion of the issues facing the oil and gas industry and its stakeholders around the globe. The Council is dedicated to the application of scientific advances in the oil and gas industries, technology transfer, and the sustainable use of the world’s petroleum resources for the benefit of all.

The winners will be awarded this December at the World Petroleum Congress in Houston, USA.
